Does your partner complain about your snoring? Do you wake feeling tired despite a full night’s sleep? Perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnoea or suspect your snoring is more than just a nuisance.
At Jindalee Family Dental & Implant Centre, we offer a comprehensive service for the assessment and treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. From convenient home sleep testing to custom-made oral appliances and ongoing care, we make the process simple, comfortable and personalised.
Led by Dr Helmut “Mick”, who has undertaken extensive continuing education in Dental Sleep Medicine and Oral Appliance Therapy, our goal is to help you enjoy quieter nights, better quality sleep and improved overall health.
What is Obstructive Sleep Apnoea?
Snoring is common, but it can sometimes be a sign of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA)—a condition where the airway repeatedly narrows or closes during sleep. These interruptions can reduce oxygen levels, disturb your sleep and place extra strain on your body.
Left untreated, sleep apnoea has been associated with an increased risk of:
- High blood pressure
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Type 2 diabetes
- Daytime fatigue and poor concentration
- Increased risk of motor vehicle and workplace accidents
Not everyone who snores has sleep apnoea, but if your snoring is loud, persistent or accompanied by choking, gasping or excessive daytime tiredness, it’s worth having it assessed.
Convenient Home Sleep Testing
If sleep apnoea is suspected, we can arrange a simple home sleep test directly through our practice.
Instead of spending the night in a sleep laboratory, you’ll take home a small, easy-to-use sleep testing device. The comfortable watch-like monitor is worn overnight in your own bed while it records important information about your breathing, oxygen levels and sleep patterns.
The following day, the recorded data will be securely uploaded for specialist analysis, allowing us to determine whether sleep apnoea is present and, if so, its severity.
Once your results have been reviewed, Dr Helmut “Mick” will discuss the findings with you and recommend the most appropriate treatment. If additional medical assessment is required, we’ll work closely with your GP or sleep physician to ensure you receive the best possible care.
Home sleep testing is:
- Comfortable and easy to use
- Performed in the comfort of your own home
- Quick and convenient
- Professionally analysed
- An important first step towards improving your sleep and overall health
How does a snoring appliance work?
A custom-made Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS) is worn while you sleep. The appliance gently positions your lower jaw slightly forward, helping to keep your airway open throughout the night. This reduces airway collapse, decreases snoring and improves airflow during sleep.
Each appliance is individually designed for your mouth using precise digital technology to ensure comfort, effectiveness and long-term durability.
Many patients experience:
- Reduced or eliminated snoring
- Better quality sleep
- Feeling more refreshed in the morning
- Reduced daytime tiredness
- Improved sleep for both themselves and their partner
Is an oral appliance right for me?
Oral appliance therapy is commonly recommended for:
- Primary snoring
- obstructive sleep apnoea
- Patients who are unable to comfortably tolerate CPAP therapy
- Selected patients with more severe sleep apnoea as part of a multidisciplinary treatment plan
During your consultation, Dr Helmut “Mick” will assess your medical history, sleep symptoms, teeth, gums, jaw joints and airway before discussing the most appropriate treatment options for you.
Your Consultation
Your appointment includes a comprehensive assessment, including:
- Discussion of your sleep, snoring and medical history
- Clinical examination of your teeth, gums and jaw
- Review of your home sleep study or previous sleep study results
- Discussion of suitable treatment options
Should a custom oral appliance be recommended, it will be individually fabricated to provide a comfortable fit and optimal results after a digital scan of your teeth has been done.
